How to Measure Your Countertops

In order to provide a cost estimate, we will need a rough drawing of your countertop area. You can easily do that on your own, by following the steps in this document.

Once the drawing is completed, please email to us, fax, or bring to our showroom.

Prior to fabrication, your countertops will be measured by a professional from Artistic Granite to obtain the precise measurements for the actual cutting of the stone.

What you need to start?

Pen or pencil, tape measure, ruler, graph paper (attached below)

This is all you need to do for preparing your countertop drawing:

• Draw the basic shape of your kitchen.
• Mark the locations of the sink, cook-top, stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator.
• Measure the length and width of your existing countertops or cabinets, and mark on the drawing.
• Indicate if you need a back splash or not.

Please follow the simple steps below to prepare your countertop's rough drawing.

How to draw your countertops?

Begin drawing your kitchen shape on the graph paper, by following the steps below:

1. Sketch out the basic shape of your kitchen and include all pieces. See Image for an example.
2. Mark sink location with (Sink), and specify the type of your sink. Is it single, double, under mount, farmer, etc…?
3. Mark stove or cook top location with (C-Top), and specify the type of your stove. Write type, if known: cook-top, free standing stove, slide-in stove, etc…
4. Mark refrigerator location with (Ref).
5. Mark Tall Cabinets location with (TC)
6. Mark all exposed edges that need to be finished with (F).
7. Mark all wall area with (W).
8. Indicate edge type, and any special instructions related to edge, if known.

How to measure your countertops?

Measure your countertops by following the steps below. Indicate all measurements in inches on the drawing you just completed. Please provide measurements as accurate as possible.

Measuring Length

Measure along the wall from one edge to the opposite edge.

Measuring Width

For replacement of existing countertops, measure from the back wall to the edge of countertops.

For countertops on new cabinets, measure from the back wall to front of cabinets, add 1 ½ for overhang and calculate the total width.

Measuring Islands

Measure the countertop length and width, including all overhangs.
